Impressive short take off and landing with the STOL CH 750

Demonstration of the very short take-off and short landing capability of the lightweight Zenith CH750 aircraft, made possible by the fixed leading edge wing slats... and some headwind! The two-seat Zenair light sport utility plane is powered by an air-cooled direct-drive Jabiru 3300 engine (105-hp@2950 rpm).

Should have my 750 STOL with 0320 flying in 60 to 90 days. Interested in seeing what takeoff distance will be.

Bill,

I don't know much about the UL Power engines. How was your experience with the 260i other than desired power? How would you compare it to the Rotax?

I've replaced the UL Power 260i on my 750 with a 350iS. Only flew with the 260 for 8 hours and decided there wasn't enough umph for my STOL needs. Have torque and power curve comparisons, and if correct, the STOL takeoff should be haul the stick back, hold the brakes until the wheels slide and hang it on the prop!!!

It probably won't fly again until Spring due to global warming that has my shop uninhabitable in central Ohio. All that remains is to reinstall the cowl (took some minor reshaping) and run the motor. Then have to move it to the airport for the first few flight.

The O-320 is around 275lbs dry weight with 150-160hp.That's close to the max design specs for engine size in the 750. That;s a good question? would it take-off in a short distance because of the weight increase.
I would be more interested in the UL-power 130HP at 170lbs dry weight...now... that would be interesting to see because it's about the same install weight as the Jabiru 3300 but more power and torque.. I think.
I was reading about the ideal prop for short take-offs and they seem to be of agreement that a longer 2 palms if much more effective than a shorter 3 palm prop. That;s what they recommend for better takeoff performance on floats. Is it marketing? or reality? who knows!! -:) but seing that type of take-off is very exciting.

Does anyone have an O-320 Lyc powered 750 flying yet? Just curious if it will get off the ground
in less than 100ft.

May end up building an 801 after I finish my 640. That's way cool.

I am glad that I chose the 750.

Yeah, it would be fun to compete with the "Alaskan Cubs" with our stock plane (which has 1/2 the HP as most souped up Cubs).

That performance beats the alaskan cub competition. The record I believe is 19 feet take-off. There were a bit of wind as well. These planes are stripped of many items onboard and many light titanium parts...all to make it as light as possible. Their engines are super tweaked for the competitions...
The Zenith 7xx would do extremely well in those competitions!!

It would be interesting to see some sort of contest between 750s with different prop and engine combinations with pilots of equal ability. Of course it should be a calm day (no wind) so the airframe performance could be measured to a given prop/engine combination.
