Hi,

I'm wondering how many gallons of paint are required to paint a CH701 ?

Say I wanted to paint it all white and it was already primed and ready for final topcoat ...

I'm not looking for a show masterpiece but I would like it to look nice, so enough paint to cover the whole thing and make sure no aluminum show thru the paint...

I have to order my paint and I don't really know how many gallons are required...

Any help would be nice. Thanks guys !

I don'tnow the answer to the amount of paint, but I would like to recommend ENDURA paint as a product. Check out the company web site for details on application & surface preparation. My CH601HD C-IDUS was painted in a house garage, in a vapour barrier spray booth. Pictures on my page show the final product was not too bad. The paint is 6 yrs old now and has not peeled off or faded... more a testimony to the quality of the paint vs. the skill of the guy spraying. Pick your colour with weight & sun in mind. By weight I mean paint adds weight to your airframe, Yellow is probably the heaviest because you must apply a White base coat in order to get the true Yellow after painting...so two coats of paint vs. a single White coat. Red paint is the most expensive to buy $ Chose the colour with sun in mind, both the effects of sun fading and sun heating. In hindsight the Black & White paint on my CH601HD looks sharpe..."BUT" the difference in aluminum skin temperature is very apparent after sitting on the ramp in the sun. The Black leading edge gets hotter than a fire cracker...did I mention the leading edge fuel tanks are getting the octane boiled out of them !

That mainlly depends on paint quality. Cheap stuff will take about 2gallons and higher quality stuff with lots of pigment(high solids)will not take much over a gallon. I have sprayed a 701 using less than a gallon. It wasn't cheap!!!
