For anyone concidering a Corvair engine or in the process of a Corvair build I suggest you look into Aeromax Avaition. I had the privledge of spending all day Saturday with Bill Clapp at Aeromax. It was well worth the 450 miles I drove that day. His experience and knowledge of the Corvair engine (both auto and aero) goes back years and it shows. He's a pilot, instructor and A&P. He was willing to take time to answer all my questions until I actually understood what he was telling me. This means a lot to me anyway. My original choice of engine was the Rotax 912 but after I'd gotten into more research of different engine choices, I'd heard there was a mandatory AD on Rotax's redrive units. I'd flown quite a few hours behind the Rotax and it seemed to be an OK engine but after my research, I'd decided to go with the Corvair. It's an engine I can build, maintain and rebuild myself. The cost savings alone on that was a hands down, no brainer for me.
I'm working on my CH650 fuselage now and hope to have it up on it's wheels before summer. Once I hit that point, I will be avidly turning my thoughts and efforts towards the Corvair. I'm hopeful to be able to attend Corvair College #15 and get a couple of days at Oshkosh this year.
Look into the Lycoming O-235-L2C it's a 125HP Aircraft Engine!
Does anyone know what it takes to turn the Corvair engine in the "traditional" direction other than the cam? I'm curious if the safety shaft threads have to be carved the other direction or if anything has to done to the distributor etc... I know I can call WW but he probably has his hands full getting ready for Lakeland.
It really doesn't bother me too much but I've been flying so long that I think I might not ever get use to the prop turning in the opposite direction!

Don't make more work for yourself. Sure the prop turns the other way, but its not like the rudder pedals are reversed. If the plane veers to the left on the runway you hit the right pedal and if it goes right you hit the left, just like anything else. Thats all it is, nothing at all to worry about. I have flown with dozens of people in Corvair powered airplanes and most were surprised when i pointed out that the engine turned the other way. Just fly the bird and don't think about it. 500+ hours in 10 different Corvair powered airplanes.

I was at the Aeromax booth at AirAdventure this past summer and I over heard a man telling a coutomer how much better their Manuals were than the compition because they left out the "junk". He then went on to Badmouth William Wyne.
Then he went on and quoted William's work comparing the Horse Power of a Corvair to an 0-200 as if he did the comparision himself.
I'm going with William.
