I have acquired a CH601 HDS that is still essentially a kit sold in 2004.
The UK LAA are of the opinion that the aircraft suffers from a limited C of G range and so needs an extension forward of the engine cradle / mount by about 50mm (2 inch).
Does any one have experience of this 'problem', and what did you do to resolve this 'issue'

I don't think you have any problem with this. it's only a recommendation that might make it easier to get the CG more forward when using the Rotax 912.
On my CH701 I sit on the aft CG limit at full loading because of the much lighter Jabiru 2200 engine. If it were a Rotax I would have fitted the battery in the aft fuse however with the Jabiru the battery is a PC925 mounted up front.

if the plane is flying if so leave well alone you will find that a lot of people will come up with all sorts like increase the tail plane by two foot another good one move the front bulkhead two inches forward the best mod is fit a heavy battery up front works a treat so they say so there you are i fly a601 hd with heavy rr200 so my problem was the other way raymond lasnier
I have a 601 HDS that was built from a kit (not by me) in 1999. There's no evidence that any mods were made to my aircraft and my aft C of G limit is 17.5" aft of datum, as per the LAA document. So long as you don't pile a load of heavy stuff into the rear compartment (and would you really want a lot of loose articles there anyway?) then in practice there isn't a problem.
My W&B spreadsheet shows that the only time I'm likely to hit the aft limit is if I have a heavy (100 kg) passenger with me (I'm about 80 kg) and I'm down to my last 15 litres of fuel. With 2 x 80kg people on board I could go down to 10 litres of fuel and have 5 kg in the back before reaching the aft limit. I've never put it to the test but I'm told that the elevator becomes very sensitive once the aft limit is reached. With a Rotax 912 I don't think it'd be possible to hit the forward limit.
Are you building nose or tail wheel? So far as I'm aware, mine is the only 601 HDS tail wheel in the UK at the moment so some company would be nice!

Yours must be one of very few tail down HDS Zodiacs in the world not just the UK. I am a long way from flying, still at a research stage and doing a lot of reading.
