Im looking at a couple rotax 912's, one is an A3 model (83 smoh in 2012) and the other is a UL and says it was overhauled in 97. Both are reasonably priced and i was wondering if anyone knows anything about the older 912 engines. I have never heard of the A3, and dont know if there are any big differences in the older UL models.

I have a Rotax 912A 80 hp. Originally in a Katana, and 600 hr TBO engine. Removed at 1200 hrs and installed in my CH601HD. Now 1420 hrs trouble free. Service notices require stator replacement ($1000) and oil pump upgrade ($550).
Core value of engine at Rotax is $2,500 for complete engine & oil tank... so don't pay more than that.
Would they be removing these for an upgraded engine? Maybe I should have held off on the Lyco, their seems to be more and more Rotax engines coming on the market for non-insane prices...
