Another thing I did was to buy some thin CA (super glue) off amazon and soaked it into the edges of the tight radius where they'll be more hammering. Can't remember where I read that tip but it worked well. It feels much harder than the untreated MDF. Make sure to apply in a ventilated area...the vapors actually smoke off the part as it cures.
