Lewis... The bungee I used was for the airframe with a gross wt. of 960 engined by the Rotax 582. You will be using a heavier duty bungee for sure with the VW installation. I don't remember the stock number of it or the source, but I had to order from the company that makes the bungees for Zenith. Zenith didn't have what I needed.
Cliff, I need to replace my nose gear bungee chord. I just recently ordered a new replacement. According to Zenith they recommend the 9010HD but when I received it - it was too long.
I removed the old bungee and it measures somewhat close to a #1080 size ... (5/8" x 8" bungee).
Maybe with my heavier VW installation - this shorter bungee was required?
What bungee did you use on your installation?
Yes, very sturdy. The metal for the skid is from an old hand saw blade which is hardened steel with plenty of spring. The teeth and excess metal have been cut away with an angle grinder. The flat skid piece was bent in a vice to provide a mounting "tab" at the proper angle and the attach tab holes were drilled with difficulty. A heavy duty punch on a anvil helped start the holes. Cutting oil and lots of pressure. Even then, I burned up a couple of bits.
Cliff, I noticed you tail skid arrangement. Look sturdy! Mine was worn out when I bought my CH701 and must replace soon.
