OK, I'll admit my ignorance and ask that you do not snicker too loudly as you (hopefully) help me figure this out;

I have a D180 installed in my 601xl

I just recently wired my panel mounted Garmin 296 into the D180 to provide HSI information.

When I Fly with HSI displayed it looks like I'm getting almost all of the information I am supposed to get;

TRK, SPD, and DTW are displayed on the top right, "GPS" is displayed on the top left. I also get the "hollow" yellow Course Indicator.

The problem is I'm not getting the soild purple ("Magenta?) CDI line as shown in the Dynon manual.

Is there something that I need to do to add the CDI to the display?

Thanks

Brad Cohen

Are you entering a route or airport into the gps?
Dave

The two points I've been using are from my home base of ZPH to the center of my test area and back. both points are entered in the GPS

Brad,

I get a magenta line on my D180 CDI from my 296.  I also get the magenta V and triangle on my compass bar.  All I can offer up is the information I used to hook them together and see if you did the same:

Purple wire from Garmin 296 goes to D-180 DB37 connector, pin 19.  Set 296 COM1 to "Aviation IN/NMEA & VHF OUT." Set baud rate to 9600.  In Advanced NMEA settings screen, select "normal."  Manual pages 116-119.

This is all I recall doing and the magic magenta line just appeared.

Good luck,

Dave

Here's what mine looked like today.

Had same issue a while back. Also found that you have to have a route or destination airport active in a GPS flight plan or no purple line in HSI.

Getting ready to install a new GNC 650 WAAS approach gps and tie it into the Dynon. Wish me luck
