Been contemplating doing a vinyl wrap over my fiberglass cowl - carbon fiber should look nice - the cowl is now a multi layer - ratty looking - base. Do I just sand it back and wrap??? Or do I have to re-prime and finish with some type of top coat.
Still grinning!

Hi Phil
Better inquire if the viniyl can stand the temperature. I plan to wrap my 701 but only the fuselage. An alternative for your cowling could be a thin layer of real carbon fibre.
The wrap will not cover any surface issues, you need to fix anything you don't want to show through - just like paint. It will stick fine to clean gel-coated fiberglass, just make sure you bring the edges around to the inside of the cowl and seal with tape or sealer. Cowls are hard because of all the compound curves. If you put seams in out of the way areas, it will be a lot easier to wrap. Engine heat is non-issue, it gets warm but does not hurt anything. My 601 is wrapped.
It looks really nice. Is the whole plan wrapped or just the blue parts? Where did you get the wrap?
Ron
The whole plane is wrapped. I got the wrap from metrorestyling.com, they have the best prices and you can buy smaller amounts at a time. Shipping is free on orders over $100. They carry all the major brands, I used the Dennison-Avery wrap because it had the colors I liked and it is supposed to cover the rivets better.
