The 601 XL I purchased has just a single center stick with the Ray Allen G205 grip. I want to change it to the "Y" grip so I have ordered a second Ray Allen G205 grip and I already have a "Y" stick from another project. My question is have any of you in stalled the second grip with the PPT button, elevator trim, and aileron trim buttons? The information from Aircraft Spruce calls out for a rely to be used, but I didn't see one offered from Spruce or Ray Allen. Any help here appreciated

I have "Y" stick with two military style grips.  Pilot's is contoured for right hand and Passenger's for left hand.  If my memory serves me, all switches are supplied with a ground.  I have a separate panel mounted switch that sends ground to only pilot or passenger grip at any time.  However, if you intend to use the same grip why have two?

joe, the plane I bought had been changed from a Y stick to a single center stick. I changed it back to a Y center stick because I want some more instruction and my CFI wanted the Y. I am building  a 601 so I just borrowed the Y stick from it today. I want to be able to control everything from both grips to make my CFI a little less nervous. I ordered a new grip from Aircraft Spruce to install on the second side.

Understand Gil.  Just a suggestion for less work and cost.  Is he ok without brakes?

He has given me my BFR in a Cessna 170 and has made several high speed runs down the runway with me in my 601, so he is comfortable with my hands on the throttle and my feet on the brakes.  I'm comfortable in my landings and basic handling of the airplane, but the takeoffs are a little bit different than any aircraft I have ever flow. I also looking into the five hour program they offer in TN at Buzzy's.

Ray Allen makes a relay for his purpose. I set mine up as you are planning and it all works just fine. You will need a separate relay deck for each servo you plan to drive. It’s not to tough to do.

Dan, I ordered a relay, and a switch. I'm thinking I will remove all the existing trim wiring and rewire. I have spent several hours now drawing a proper latter diagram electrical print with numbers for each wire instead of trying to make sense of the hen scratch drawing that came from the original builder. I am a retired electrical guy, so it will take me a while, but it will be right and proper so the next owner will be able to make repair if needed in the future and I can trouble shoot if I make a mistake wiring. Where the wires exit the bottom of the stick there  is a potential pinch point so I'm going to remove some material in the bottom of the stick with a half round file, birds mouth shape, so the wires will have room to flex with out the danger of being compressed when the stick is moved fore and aft.

I received my Ray Allen G250 grip. What an adventure for this old man to assemble and solder all those little wires!  But I did it, and it works. I did have a heck of a time getting my wire markers to stick to the wires.

Labeled heat shrink tubing is the way to go.  Every wire on my plane has a label where it connects.  As an afterthought, I wish I had also indicated what the other end connected to.

I had purchased a Dymo label maker and heat shrink tubing. After about ah hour messing with the thing I threw it in the trash. about 50 buck spent on junk. I had the same though as you, it just didn't work out that way. The diameter of the wire supplied with the G250 grip is extremely hard to work with when you have large old & stiff fingers, LOL

Sorry to hear that.  Mine Dymo works perfect.  Best tool in my drawer.  My fingers are not stiff but they sure start to shake sometimes.  For connectors, I use molex and crimp the wires.  I was so glad that my grips came wired.

I'm glad mine is done, but I have another one to do.
