I'm fitting the aileron trim tab onto an already built aileron.  Because of the orientation of the outboard rib the cutout channel is only supported by the skin.  What have those of you with the aileron trim tab option done?  Or is just the skin supporting the channel ok?

Randy, I two added aileron trim to an already built aileron. If you look at the drawings 6-ato-1 it shows the channel positioned between the ribs . I suppose this is the area in which you are concerned about being supported only by the skin. By looking at these plans and from what I remember on building mine its not possable to tie the out board end of the channel directly to the rib. I suppose the skin will have to be enough support. I've been thinking about a small L angle riveted to the channel and the rib with maybe 2 small strips top and bottom to tie it to the rib but if nobody else has been concerned about it maybe I should just let it alone.  Randy

I know it seems rather "flimsey" at first, but when you get it all riveted togather its not that way at all.  Any extra srtegnth you add is always an improvment but the cost of course is weight.

I also added the aileron trim to my 601XL-B. The only problem I had was that the tab does not have a built in twist like the aileron itself and when in the neutral position there is a slight difference in how the trim tab fairs in to the inboard and outboard trailing edge of the aileron. The difference is very slight, probably 1 mm, if I was doing it over would probably try and put a little twist in the trim tab, but with my luck I would probably put too much in and it still would not fair in properly. Once the tab assembly is installed it is very solid and I do not see any problem with the installation as designed.                     Bob Pickens, Troy, Mo.

Thanks, thats the kind of info I was looking for.  Randy
