Hi, I want to install piano hinge for my cowling installation. Can someone share with me the specific part number for the piano hinge? I believe it is MS20257 but I don't know what width or thickness is. Also, how much length does one need? Zenith has changed their Builders Resources page since I last looked and I can't find anything.

Hi Steven, you will need Aircraft Spruce #MS20001P4 hinge. Just look for the most expensive one ($74.75) is what I paid.

You want the extruded hinge… Choose a wide one, so you’ll have adequate edge distance on both sides. I think I went with 1.5 inch. But I’d have to measure to be sure.

Hey Steven,

The part number that John mentioned below I believe is correct. Usually 9 ft is needed, but you can only buy in 6 ft sections, so it can get pricey. We do have these kits available, (9ft sections 3x3) and they come with undersized hinge pins if you can't find what you are looking for.

Thank you very much for the replies! Getting ready to order and get started.

Been there done that, but……. If you have to open the cowl often ( and who doesn’t) you will find out that aligning the cowl halves can be a pain to do when putting it back on. So…. On the next plane I installed the quarter turn fasteners, much happier but that is why it is called experimental

harmen. ( 701 with piano hinge and cruzer with quarter turn fasteners)

I got mine from AC Spruce...
