Any thoughts on putting an Apex on a 701? I see engine mounts and EFI kits at Bdturnkeyengines. I haven't seen any videos of a 701 with a Yamaha. Just wondering if the 150-160 hp may be a bit much for a plane that should have a 100 hp?

The CH701 is a great plane with various engines being used,80-100hp is most commonly used, the main concern is the weight? 150-160 hp would probably be better on a CH750 Airctaft.

Im pretty weight isn't an issue from what I have read. Just thinking maybe a bit too much power for the little plane. I guess Im just worried about the price of engines and the Yamaha could be done pretty cheap I think. I do like the Viking 90 though.

There is an hour long video of a gentleman in BC building an apex CH701 on youtube, you should check it out. He built a custom mount for it.

You could also look at putting a Yamaha 3 cylinder Vector engine on your 701.

The newer ones are EFI and put out almost 130 HP, and the older ones have carbs and are 120 HP.

The 3 cyl is about 10 lbs lighter than the 4 cyl APEX (which is already light at 119 lbs, less RGB).

EFI is nice but you need high pressure (43 psi  / 3 bar) fuel pumps and likely a header tank.

Gearboxes for the Apex, Vector, and Phaser (85 hp, 2 cyl) are available from Teal Jenkins at Skytraxusa.com

My all up weight for an APEX in my CH750 Cruzer build is looking like it will come out at about 175lbs including engine (119 lbs), Skytrax gearbox (about 25lbs), engine mount (10 lbs), radiator & coolant (10 lbs), oil tank & oil & hoses (8 lbs), misc items incl wire harness & clamps etc (3 lbs)

Are you flying yet? What kind of performance (cruise, climb rate, fuel burn) are you seeing?

Im still working on building the airplane. Just about finished the fuselage. I just received the wings to put together a couple weeks ago. Been a slow process. I do have an Apex engine being rebuilt at Badass Powersports.  Been back and forth but I do still want to install the Apex. I think it will work great. Hopefully its not too much work getting everything to work.

I've put an Apex in my CH750 Cruzer.  In final stages of assembly / test.  Firewall forward weight (estimated / calculated) is around 180 lbs for the Apex, mount, radiator, etc.  So maybe 10 - 15 lbs heavier than a Rotax 912 ?  Those with a 912 can let you know the actual weight. I will be weighing the aircraft in a few weeks so will confirm overall weight of aircraft / engine combo.  In a 701 I think it would also work well.

Where did you get your engine mount? Or did you build it yourself?
