Hey there folks, I'm having issues with my gas caps leaking on my 701. It came with what I assume were stock caps from zenith with the cane shaped snorkel but could not stop them from leaking even with new gaskets. I bought some new ones, they're the same style base just no snorkel.
The gas comes between the top of the tank neck and the cap gasket. I noticed that the rubber gaskets were distorting the first time I took off the caps so I replaced them with cork but they still leak. How have any of you dealt with this issue?
Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,
The Zenith vented caps leak fuel on my 701 every time I fly with more than a half load of fuel. At a half-tank or below all my fuel usually stays in the tank. The design of the 701 fuel vent system- which consists of these caps- is simple and darn near maintenance-free but wing stains are the tradeoff. Some have added a curved ram air tube to the cap to address the uneven left/right tank fuel consumption issue, maybe someone who has will weigh in at let you know if that helped reduce the seepage down the wing. Me I just grab a bottle of my favorite spray cleaner and a soft rag and wipe down those fuel trails after the flight to minimize the inevitable paint stain.

On the fuel caps of my 701, I installed a snorkel in the shape ofa cane and sealed the internal holes with solder, and the leak
above the wings stopped.
