    I'm finishing a 601 HDS fitted with a stratos subaru e-81 and have a problem that the front undercarriage spat could impact onthe underside of the water cooling radiator. Could you possible post some photos of the underside of your aircraft's fuselage so I can see where the radiator is mounted?

    Thanks for getting back to me. I've had an email from Laary Mcfarlane who has the MAcmachine website. Larry has the radiator 31 inches back from the firewall as it's coller and is better for C of G. I'm planning to do this too. He also provided this info re mufflers and engine heat:

    Another point I should have made was the Stratus muffler system is great, but a cabin heat muff around the muffler will lower temps at the radiator by 7-degrees by dumping warm air to the cabin or over the side outside the flow into the radiator. Radiator intake and louvers provide about 10-degrees more cooling thru efficient airflow. It all adds up.....

    The Bing carb *main jets* need to be #176 or 178 and the *needle jet* needs to be 2.76 or 2.78 to keep the EGTs in line. I use the 176 - 2.76 combination in cold weather less than 40-degrees F.
    and 178 - 2.78 in the warm weather anything above 40-degrees F.
    My engine EGTs run between 1350 and 1425. 1450 is my EIS warning set point.

    Greg I didn't have my camera today when I worked on it,but my radiator has it's front tank about 1" behind nose gear tube. In fact 1 radiator hose drops in front off firewall straight down into radiator. When doing a ground run up I have a hard time getting system hot. I will have to see how it is in flight. Thanks for the carb info that is what I am doing next is check and clean carbs. How are you accomplishing carb heat? I am having a problem with that. The previous owner didn't have any and 3 times he landed for rough engine. His description and temp info says it all. Dennis
