Aircraft and Amateur Built FAA rules. He talked inspection of problems he
looks for when doing an inspection of An amateur-built airplane. The plane
must as ready to begin flight test with only inspection plates and other
inspection opening off. He said area he found problems where edge distance
for rivets and bolts, thread clearance on nuts, Cotter keys not installed,
jam nuts not tight, cable ends. These are things that can be easily
overlooked in building our airplanes. He likes to talk about airplanes and
building airplane, he was an auto mechanic by trade before becoming an A&P

It was a busy weekend for all the Zenith community, first with another 601XL crash in Ark. and then the FAA issued a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin CE-10-08 (Nov.7,2009): for the S-SLA CH601 XL/CH650. The SAIB must be applied to all AMD factory build CH 601XL/CH 650 S-SLA. and is strongly recommend by the FAA and the Zenith Aircraft Company on all E-SLA 601XL and CH 650. This has the effect of grounding all CH 601XL/CH650 until the mods are made on our birds. I half suspected there would be some type of mod coming from Zenith after the NTSB report and that is why I waited to order the wing kit. This does not effect the older CH 601 and none of the CH 700 series of Zenith Aircraft.
We have not yet agreed on a format for future meeting but I believe the group still feels there is a value in our breakfast meeting. I believe with all the news of the last couple of days it might be a good time for a meeting. I know the holidays are just ahead so my thought is that the next two Saturday of Nov,14Th or the 21st may be the last chance this year for all of us to get together. I am sending this note to check with everyone to see if there is an interest and then we can decide on a date. I am going to keep building. Zenith has posted on their site all the information about the SAID and the Zenith Aircraft plans to address all the concerns regarding the CH601XL/CH650.
