I like the color of your 701. It's the color I was going to paint my 701 before I decided not to paint it at all. I live up in the mountains above Bakersfield and I’m looking for flying partners for this next summer. I want to do some back country flying out west here and I would like to know if your are interested in that kind of flying also. If so you can contact me at:
I'm also planning to go to the May 9th fly-in at QSP in Cloverdale. I'm putting together a talk about Maintenance, who can do it, who can sign off inspections and so on. I usually go up the day before, Friday and come back the day after, Sunday. It’s pretty much a full day of flying for me. If your planning on going, I could come by your place on my way up and we could continue on to Cloverdale together. Let me know if this sounds like something that fits your schedule.
Get some hours in and shake her down. It’s a great reason to fly.
I have an early 701 and the nose gear bungee puts a lot of pressure on the “V-blocks” at the steering rods. This makes my rudder pressure very high. The later kits changed this problem. Hope this helps
Assuming the weather is good I’ll see you at Cloverdale.
I have baught a new house and I'm spending a lot of time there working on things so I will not make it this coming weekend, I was planing to go but this house has got me.
I am planing on Cloverdale house or not. So I hope to see you there.
Hi Mark, Sorry for the delay in a response. I've been out of town for a while. Yes, the bigger tires use larger (8") rims and new brakes & spindals. The tires are really cheap from the guys in Ohio but the wheels / brakes /axels were around $800 - $900. Call the MATCO people and tell them what you want to do and they'll make sure you get the right stuff. The new wheels use a better sealed bearing and the axels use an adapter to fit your current landing gear. It is a nice upgrade and I plan to post a full written assessment later this spring.
Elmer.
