Building and Flying Info / Your Profession / Other Background Info
I am 62 yr. old and work construction as a safety tech, sometimes I have to travel a lot. Got my PPL in 1974 but haven't flown in some time. I'm doing a lot of head scratching but I really like building from plans only. There is so much help out there and I feel I can ask any dumb question I need to. Hope to have a build site up soon. My start date was about April, 2009.
I was in my flight training program in Pensacola, FL, in 71-72. "Y'all" was new to me then. But it was one of the nicer words, especially when used by sweet and kind people there, young or old.
I started my 701 one week before my, now, ex wife told me she was pregnant with my, now, four year old. A lot of life has happened since then and my project only got as far as the rudder. I have joint custody of my two girls, 9 and 4. With work and a girlfriend I have very little spare time but that dream has never faded. I think I am going to switch to the 750 for the added cruise speed and engine choices. I would love to visit you sometime to check out your 701 and get some more motivation. I loved building the rudder. I have collected tools, information and other resources, just need a shop and some commitment.
I am having warping problems brazing thin aluminum. I think the soda can works since it's shape provides strength. Nevertheless, it is a handy tool. Welding/brazing thin aluminum is a challenge.
