Hi Gary, that CAA publication is pretty good. I had not stumbled across this before now. I am still tossing up whether to construct a CH-701, CH-750 or even an ICP Savannah. I tend to favour the Zeniths because it appears there is much better factory backup available. The CH-750 has a design MTOW of 600 kg. This means that 56 kg of that design envelope cannot be used under the NZ microlight rules. With the world heading to the 600 kg limit -because of the USA LSA regs- I wonder if NZ will also s-t-r-e-t-c-h the 544 kg microlight limit to 600 kg?
If you were to do it all again, would you have chosen the CH-701 still, even though the 750 is now freely available?
Just wondering: how is the painting of the plane getting along?
Hi Gary
From your ground running of your engine, how are your temps behaving with your aluminium cooling fence.
Can you share some pictures of your setup?
Hi Gary
Thanks for commenting on my cooling fence. It is good to hear that you think it will reward me for my efforts because obviously you would know.
So how are your temps going now both on the ground and in the air?
I unfortunately will only be reading one CHT and one EGT so initially I will have to do a carefull audit of my cylinders.
I understand -from email contact with the CAA this week about this matter- that next week there'll be a meeting to decide whether the 544kg limit should be raised to 600kg ...or not.
If this change does go ahead, it should be much easier to get the CH-750 classified as a "microlight".
I think that the proposal to s-t-r-e-t-c-h the microlight weight limit from 544 to 600 kg is not seriously being looked at by the folks at the NZ CAA in Wellington. I believe it will be a matter of time and that this change is likely to take place within twelve months.
If it comes to pass, the microlight category would be ideal for the CH750. Up to the present it is really a 'waste' to register the 750 as a microlight due to the much-reduced useful load when MAUW is just 544 kg. Extending this to 600 kg takes care of a heavier passenger and some extra fuel.
Hi Gary, How do you like the Pegastol wings. Have you accurately figured out your Unusable fual load? I fly the CH 701 with Pegastol wings also. Love the airplane. My unusable fuel load is about 5 litres per tank. Frank
