Building and Flying Info / Your Profession / Other Background Info
I used to have a PPL and have flown the CH701 in South Africa. Due to medical problems I can no longer fly the real thing.
I recently decided as I can no longer enjoy real flying, why not build a radio controlled model of the very capable CH701 and enjoy a scaled down version of the real thing.
I have now finished building A 1/5th scale CH701 based on Scott Ehni's Turbo-prop version of the Zenair STOL CH701 Skyjeep.
However, I have used an 800kv/1010w electric motor driving a 12x8 three bladed prop up to 11500 rpm on 14.8 volts. At full chat it really does sound very turbine like indeed.
I have faithfully kept to scale wherever possible and had to use a bit of imagination for those items only a real tyro will see where I have deviated from original design.
The servos are all inboard and thus control the rudder, elevator, flaperons, flaps and throttle as per the real thing.
I trust I have done justice to the Zenair CH701 as the RC model has turned out to be a beautiful aircraft.
