Long straight cuts are easily done with a scoring blade (e.g., olfa p-cutter 800).
Using a straight edge, you score the material a number of times (10 to 20, depending on the thickness) and then brake it.
Regarding the skins, many people scratch building the older Zodiac used 0.020" or 0.025".
I believe the CH650 kit already comes with thicker skins.
The advantage is that it is less prone to get dented (during and after construction), and reduced "oil canning".
Of course, the down side is added weight.
