    See here Walter, these threads

    and here

2 of my early forum contributions, re. my original poor quality bench.  I'm lucky I have the space, so my new bench is 3600mm long by 900mm wide, comprising two layers of 19mm particleboard flooring securely mounted on joined-up, old metal office tables, and wheels fitted.  Built the wings on these, although according to Jon Croke's HomebuiltHelp DVDs it can be done on 2 saw horses.

If you want my "pointers" Walter you should purchase all the HomebuiltHelp DVDs for the Cruzer - priceless, as a confidence booster, if you are a "first timer",   AND although it takes time, you should meticulously read all the Cruzer and 750 Forum threads, with a serious eye out for the "gotchas", as otherwise, they will get you too!

Do you have this low cost tool:  http://www.tightfittools.net/  again, essential, in my view.  If you want to know the drill bits I ordered to go with it, let me know.

Plenty more pointers I could give, but I don't know if I would be preaching to the already experienced.

I might work up a list, as can't do much at the moment as broken my collarbone, falling off my push bike - bumma!

Tip - separate the fun and creativity of the build, from actually flying it (much later) - different things.  Tell your friends it will be finished when your good and ready, say 5 years. Then when you do it in 3, all the better.

    Good Luck, John

I saw your post on Viking site asking for pictures of the Thermostat mod.  I think you should hold off removing the by-pass valve as nothing is gained as far as we could tell.  Although we posted the mod on our builders page  Thermostat.jpg  ,we have since decided there is no reason to remove it, and instead will remove the thermostats jiggle pin instead.

The jiggle pin is to vent air while filling, but because of the Evans coolant viscosity, it will not vent air.  I shared this with Pete at Evans Coolant coolant, and with Jan at Viking.  Both agree this is a good course of action, and Jan now advises we should drill the jiggle pin hole to 3/16".

We've not done it yet, but as far as we're concerned Vikings thermostat mode doesn't work and is unnecessary.
