    Have cut the canopy for an RV-7. What we did is use multiple layers of masking tape each side of the cut, then use many passes with a thin zip cut disc on a die grinder.Just make a mark at first then with the next pass take off a little more. continue deepening the cut until the pieces separate. ensure the pieces either side of the cut are well supported so you don't have any induced stress.
