    I originally was going to use Python, but could not find a graphics library that was easy to learn and had all the features I wanted.

    (Tkinter does not support anti-aliasing.)

    Not to mention installation: some of these  open-software products are a bear to install, oodles of pre- and co-requisites.

    You are right about ports, it'll be a consideration when I reach for the wallet. But the engine monitor will use multiplexers such as this:

    which will reduce the I/O requirements.

    The RPI is supported by openFrameworks, and the PCduino only recently saw a  couple of successful installs (the pre and co-requisites were the major issues - not surprisingly).

    The advantage of the PCduino is the abundance of ports, speed and memory. We'll see...
