Hard starting Rotax 912 ULS

So it started in January. I was having an unusually hard time starting my 912. The first time I killed the battery and had to jump start it. But then it ran fine for a flight. I thought it might have been because it sat for 5 weeks(tied down outside). So I figure I need to fly it more often. Next time out a week later, still hard start but I did not kill the battery. Again it ran fine. Went out about a week later, too windy to fly so I decided to just run it(apparently not a good idea). Again…See More

Charging issue

So about 2 weeks ago I was flying along and started having an intermittent low volt light come on with a drop in the voltage to just above 12. It would last a few minutes then go back to normal. I did research and it appears that this could be an issue with the voltage regulator. I have the older model Ducati voltage regular. I checked the connections to it and did not see any corrosion. In my testing since when I first start the engine everything works normally for about 5 minutes. Then I hear…See More

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for getting back to me. I spoke with tech support at Matco and I think the holes align close enough that I will be able to drill them a bit larger and things will fit. I'm purchasing an adjustable hand reamer that can open the holes ever so slightly so that the new axle will match up with the holes. I'll post some pictures if I can make this work. I noticed from the pictures you posted that your mechanic took the old Ingegno axle and modified it to work. That seems like an ingenious solution. I also asked the Matco tech person if I could buy un-drilled axles and then use the old axle as a template and drill them myself. He told me that they make the axles in batches and I may have to wait up to 6 months for the next batch, so I'm going to try my first idea of making the holes slightly bigger.

Thanks again!

Evan

Hi Charlie,

My name is Evan Reisman and I saw your post regarding replacing your Mark Ingegno wheels. I have the same exact situation as you did. I brought the Matco Wheels. I went on the word of Roger but haven’t yet removed the current wheels and brakes to see if the new Matco axle bolt pattern will match. Could I speak with you or your mechanic by phone to get more info? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Evan Reisman
