I have built two zenith kits in the past. My first one a ch701 was built in1991-1992. It originally was powered by a rotax 582 for about 300 hours. The 582 was replaced with a rotax 914 to give superb performance in the mountains where I live. I have put 1200 hours on the 914 now and I have nothing but good to say about the 701/914 combination. The airframe at 1500 hours is in excellent shape.
My second zenith is a ch801. It is completed and has been flying for about 125 hours…

Hi Clarence,
I have a CH 701 kit as well. Not built yet. I'm very interested in your at-altitude performance with the Rotax 914. From a page at zenithair.net for your plane, it stated your weight for test flights was about 850 lbs. I interpret this to be single-seat flights. I'm interested with flight performance with two people on-board and near full fuel. How significant was the reduction in max altitude with two people?
Thanks for your thoughts,
Scott Speirer/Albuquerque, NM
Good morning
I live in Billings Mt. I am building a 701 with a 914 and I am hoping that you could give me insight on how this is done.
i am using the ring mount and it appears that the same ring mount is used on both engines therefore that should be the same however the oil cooler looks like it needs to be relocated, did you use the zenith cowling etc. feel free to contact me at my email address tloomis@live.com
thank you. Todd loomis
Hello, Mr. Wood. I was living in Valley Center, KS, when I sold you my partial CH801 kit. We met in Lehman, CO. and transferred ownership packed in a U-Haul trailer. Good to hear you completed the plane. I started building a CH701 that same year and completed it in 2012. I'm retired myself since 2008 and am living near Oologah, OK. I have flown my 701 105 hours.
