Hello,
I would like to know if anyone has the Viking engine installed and if you have any weights and performance numbers?
Thank you,

Hi Mike:
According to a post from Jan Eggenfellner on the Viking Yahoo group, the first engines were due to ship Feb. 20. So there probably aren't any customer installations yet. I have paid for my engine and hope to receive it by the May-June timeframe.
I'll try to post post weight and perfrormance data ASAP after my test period. Currently, the hangup is waiting for warm weather so I can get back to working on the airframe in my hanger.
Fred
Hi Fred,
Thanks for the reply. I like the looks of the Viking on paper but I would sure like to see some real world data.
Have you seen the motor? Living in Alaska has it's +/-'s and one of the negatives is that it is so far away from the lower 48. I would love to see the Viking and hear it run but to travel 3 + thousand miles just to do that doesn't make sense.
Good luck on your progect.

I saw the engine at Sun and Fun last year and then again at OSH. I have not seen it run live, but it sounds good on the videos. And it looks good. At OSH I met the aerospace machinist who produces parts for Jan and am impressed with the engine progress from prototype to production stage. If, some day, I fly my Viking powered CH750 to Alaska maybe you can get a look at it. :)
But I hope you can see one before then.
Fred
Fred,
If you ever fly up here please let me know, I would be glad to show you around and give you some great tips on where to fly and what to see. Maybe by the time you get here I will have a 750 up and flying as well then we can go and do some beach combing.
Mike
Stefan,
Thanks for the reply. I did see the notice you mention concerning the SeaRey and I hope we get some real world data from this and other installations.
I have been following the viking website and find it interesting and informative but I want to see real data from real folks before I purcahse a HF-110. Even though I am a Honda enthusiast, motorcycles, outboard motors, cars, portable generator, and hopefully an aircraft engine, I still hope to find someone outside the factory and get their opinions and data.
Mike
I am planning on putting one in my next airplane, which will either be a 750 or a Savannah VGW, and I am looking forward to electronic fuel injection. I have the 912S in my 701 now and it's really a pain synching the 2 carbs, and keeping up with all of the do's and don'ts of the little motor.
Doug,
Thanks for the info on the Rotax.
I have a Lycoming O-320 in my current aircraft and it is high maintenance . There is always something leaking or breaking, or needing an adjustment. Don't get me wrong the Lycosaur is a good dependable engine and will likely run forever but I want something more modern and I have great hopes for the HF-110.
I want to see some real world data from builders about this engine before I buy one. I think fuel injection and electronic igniton would be very nice indeed and the fact that Honda designed these systems and have them on millions of cars is a plus. I tried an experimental electronic ignition system on the O-320 and it had so many failures I would never leave the airport area and I took it off after 25 hours and went back to traditional mags.

After further review I have changed my mind and probably will be going with the Jabiru 3300 for my Zenith 750. The Viking just hasn't been proven yet.
Dan,
That would be great. First hand information.
Thanks,
Mike
Mike, nothing yet but getting close for a weight an balance.
If it works half as good as it looks, it will be a great engine.
