I've got the Sandia 165-R transponder (remote mount). I really like the flexibility the remote mounting gives you, it's extremely light, and the price isn't bad, either! In my case, I have a MGL Xtreme EFIS that controls the transponder, so that frees up some more panel space. The transponder is mounted under the pilot's seat and the antenna under the passenger's seat, allowing for an extremely short antenna cable run to minimize transmission loss.

Another light instrument is the MGL V6 Com - it's got all the bells and whistles including a stereo intercom, stereo music input, etc., and weighs 240 grams. (When you pick up the box from delivery, you think it's empty! HA!)

The EFIS is very light, too. All together - EFIS, com, and transponder - I saved several pounds over some of the alternatives.

John, I had pretty much decided on the 165 and the V6 COM but was looking around for other choices. Thought that Funkwerk radio was interesting but I can't find anyone anywhere who uses one.

I think I've decided to go with the GRT Sport SX200 for my EFIS.
