My main gear is very stiff, i have never seen the top plate move.

Is it possible to install the spring gear as used on the 650?

How much beefing up would be required.

Has any one done this?

The mains on a ch601 and 650 are identical with a different bend angle giving the 650 a little taller( better prop clearance) but somewhat narrow stance - I believe every thing else should be the same

It sounds like Ray has an earlier Zodiac 601 HD, HDS, or UL with the bungee cord shock absorbers on his main gear and is asking about converting to the spring gear found on the 601 XL and 650 LS.

How about the attach hardware and what extra beefing up of the fuselage structure where it attaches?

I believe the attach hardware are the same on 601 and 650

Ray, if you're still looking at doing the spring gear mod, I have info pics and specs for the conversion. I'm just finishing the mounts on my 601hd. No more bungee for me.

Charlie.  -  Almost 2 years later, do you still have the info. & pics. & specs for the conversion from bungees to spring gear on your 601HD.  If so I would appreciate it if you could send it to me.  -  Dave
