Hey Guy's

Would love to hear from any Jab 3300 engine guys that have removed their Muffler for straight exhaust pipes No Muffler...what has the performance been like....and any problems...if any?

Had a few friends that run there engine this way...and are pleased with the results...any comments from your guys?

Thanks

I know a guy with a sonex that runs a 3300 without a muffler. The only problem he had was getting everything sealed well enough to eliminate Carbon Monoxide in the cockpit. It would be interesting to hear from someone with a 601XL or 650 that can provide a before and after comparison of performance and engine noise. Removing the muffler will reduce back-pressure in the exhaust. I am told the back-pressure helps with horsepower output so the muffler may actually add horsepower.

Hey Mike....Thanks for your reply...I would not care about the engine noise being louder...its an aircraft they sound better louder...anyway....as far as the Back Pressure is concerned...I have heard that removing the muffler actually increases the Horsepower thats why I am asking the question...from anyone that has done it....Thanks again for you reply Mike...I too am interested to find out what the true results are....Cheers Mark

The Jab 3300 is very popular on Sonex aircraft and I "think" that most, if not all of them, are run with dual straight pipes as the engine is a very tight fit.  I have a friend with a Sonex who is very active in the Sonex community and I've never heard from him of a comment about any issues resulting from the dual exhaust.
