Am I the only one, or is it common when building an airplane to drill your finger? Has  anyone ever built a plane without drilling their finger at least once?

Actually, it's a FAA requirement ... they'll want to see the scars on your fingers and blood stains on the airframe or you won't pass the 51% rule!  :)))

Not me. Right thru the friggen nail! Many others where I drilled off a finger tip.

Part of the joy of building.

There are other ways to fulfill the blood, sweat, and tears requirements, but drilling a finger might be the most common.

Don't forget to deburr!

This thread made me laugh, thanks for starting it. Love the title. No finger drill holes for me but plenty of cuts and blood left behind from metal edges, and strands of hair jerked from my wife and my scalps by various sources including rivet heads and control cable strands.

I drilled my finger while at Mexico building the rudder for my Cruzer.  The nail is still screwed up four years later.

wow, 4 years you drilled it good!

Scratch built a STOL 750 and no holes in the fingers.

Paul, that has to be a world record! LOL!

John

I did get some scratches and found out that acetone won't clean up dried blood on aluminum.

If you aren't bleeding your not building a Zenith, that

could just be me though.

Sorry, you can't take all the credit!  Multiple times.   lol

Twice.  Once on my build with a .40.  The second time a month later working on the one week wonder at Sun&Fun.  In the same hole.  It really hurts the second time.
