Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
Hi,
I was watching a YouTube video by Mark Patel about modifications that he made to his 801 (16 years ago). In one of the mods he got rid of the flaperon banana slot by adding a bearing to the flaperon pivot point on the fuselage and attaching a bellcrank to the horizontal flap rod inside. Unfortunately, he doesn’t go into much detail.
I have searched the internet and I haven’t been able to find anything else on this mod (though I will be the first to admit I’m not the most internet savvy guy).I’m sure after 16 years that he isn’t the only person to make this modification. Does anyone know of any in depth instructions on making this mod? Frankly, after 16 years I can’t believe Zenith hasn’t incorporated it into their kits. It’s a really good modification and it gets rid of the ugly, leaky banana slot. Thanks in advance for any input.
Below is a link to the YouTube video. The modification starts at 8:58

I made covers for my slots to keep the dirt dauber wasps out when hangared. Here's a link to "No Slot Flaperon" that eliminates the banana slots. I personally have no idea how well it worked.
