Hi Larry. We did 75 hours the first month in our 801.with the long range tanks, I have to strecth endurance to almost 9 hours on one flight! Fuel flows down to 4gph! Glazed the cylinders becauseof this though. To low power settings for 2 long! Having cooling issues on the oil temps and cylinder 2 at the moment. Did all our flying in winter and now in summer we are battling abit. Redoing the baffles and moving the oilcooler to the right rear baffle where we now take off bleed air from the cowl. Also repitched my prop from a 54 to 57 to better absorb power. We run almost 2900rpm staright and level at full power. Also did a 1" prop extension. As I go along, I tweak things to make it run cooler, bit faster etc. Found that with a slight flap down setting we get 5mph better cruise at the same power settings as well. Am also installing the VG kit on the elevator this week.

Dear Larry, I live in Kenya and have just completed and flown my 801. It has a O 360 Lycoming wiht standard prop from the factory. I have done 5 hours in the plane and my son about 4 all under instruction as we are newly qualified pilots. I am not sure whaich engine you ahve but I would interested to know what cruise speed you manage to get as we are only achieving 90 mph at 2500 rpm. Any other comments on approach speeds, flaps running tanks low would be greatly appreciated.

I do think that our ASI is under-reading but it has been difficult to find out for sure as it is very windy here at the moment. Glad you approach speed a little bit higher as we find she sinks fast at anything lower.
We have done about 8 two hour cross countries and really enjoy the great visibility. Will keep you infomred how we are doing.
