Jeff just a note that your plane has been my inspiration on fit and finish. I found yours in the photo galleries of the Zenith web site and continue to refer to it as I start on my instrument panel. One question, What engine are you flying with as I noticed Carb heat on your Panel? Thanks, Tom
I have a table but recently I have been helping a couple of friends with their projects (prepping a Navion for a paint job and a Stinson restoration). I am glad that you recognized me and contacted me so quick. I will contact you again soon.
Hi Jeff,
I'm building a 701, and am on the forward fuselage now. I really like the pics I've seen of yours. Where did you get your FWF? It looks great, and doesn't look like the stock Zenith?
Jeff: Good to hear from you. I really liked the finish on your plane. Flying with Jack is sort of like "Mutt & Jeff". OK, Jack & Jeff!
The headsets are Telex, Stratus 30 XT. I got them for the width adjustment, but there may be others out there than do the same. A word of caution though. A friend had an older version that needed repair and Texel said they were obsolete. So he got a set of the Stratus and said he didn't like them as well. There's no ON/Off for the ANC and he didn't like the junction/plug outlets in the middle of the cord. I, on the other hand, will train myself to like them..........a lot!
N14BY is about ready to taxi test. It's at Cambridge airport waiting for something like a sunny day over 30. I need to get the paperwork to the FAA and find out how to get it inspected. When the weather permits I'd welcome you back.
Dear Jeff,
thank you for making contact. There is no real need for having a STOL plane in Germany, but it is good fun and having the option to get into small fields isn´t a bad thing should the need ever arise. I´ve flown my CH701 D for about 280 hours since February 2009 and I love it. It is equipped with the 80HP 912 Rotax and a ground-adjustable propeller which I still try to optimise in pitch for "best compromise". I live only about 30 miles from the Czech Republic border and 50 miles from Austria so I frequently cross borders, also flying in the German and Austrian Alpes is good fun (but requires some careful planning and awareness) and I plan to visit Italy in 2011.
Greetings from Bavaria, Armin
Hi Jeff and thanks for your coments. Its easy to be a little biased with regards to the CZAW cowling etc. My kit came from CZAW as Zenith had a 6 month waitlist for kits at the time and a local NZ dealer was importing two built-ups ex CZAW with room in the container for a kit for marginal extra cost....no regrets on that score, the CZechs made a nice few extra touches like the cowling.
Look forward to seeing you if you are ever down this way. We have superb country for 701 activities with no need for snow blowers for winter flying unless you are planning to land on mountain tops! Just now I am in Laos sweating from 38 degrees and about 110% humidity outside - looking forward to getting back to cold crisp weather at home for clear sky winter flying.
