    Hi David,

    I had false ribs on the outboard panel (between the two last ribs) and it didn't quite satisfied me. I could still push the skin down quite a bit.

    So I decided on the stringers : easy, simple and effective.

    If I had to do it over again, I would ADD REAL RIBS in the bays where the spacing is too much. Problem solved !
    It doesn't add that much weight and all the ribs are made the same...

    Another way would be to increase the skin thickness to 20mill.. or more. 16 mill is pretty flimsy for my taste. By the way, the 701 is recongnized to be the OIL canning King of the skies !
    Especially the OLDER plans calling for 16 mil skins and all.

    How are you guys making out with your 701s? We are still trying to get all of the systems put into our 750 wings but hope to get onto the fuselages in the next few weeks. We are planning on having a local metal fab shop laser cut (from our digitized cad files) most of the fuse parts. Cheers, Joe

    Hi Dave,

     

    Good to  hear from you. Sounds like you are a little ahead of us. We also have the wings and the tail surfaces done. Right now we are "boxing" our first rear fuselage. We have also mostly completed the forward fuselage sections. A couple of our faster working guys think that they can be flying in 2012. Hope the summer is good to you guys.

    Hi David. I appreciate you taking time to help me out. My email is kimbullm@hotmail.com. I bought my plane partially completed and have had to do major rework to get it flying. Just finished pulling the left wing almost completely apart to correct a 3 degree twist built into it by the previous builder. It is flying ok but the stall speed is higher than I expected (35 mph with 15 deg flap). My home strip is about 375 ft at 3800 above sea level so I need good stol performance. Hence the interest in the long wing

    Hi Dave thank you. Is that with flaps and power? With 15 degrees of flap and about 3000 rpm I am getting about the same. My original 35 mph was no power , no flaps. I am also in the flight testing stage, currently trying different landing techniques. There's probably a whole thread on landing but haven't gone looking yet. So far the best short field over an obstacle seems to be approach at 45-50 and add a burst of power to flare, landing with stick full back. Engine out approach has to be at 60 to have enough speed for the elevator to get the nose up to flare. have done a few 300 foot landings but not yet consistent. Any thoughts??

    David, I just saw your comment on the snorkel vent cap.  Also realized that almost 2 years ago you were on the 'friends request' of my sign in.  I apologize for not responding then but I'm not a computer geek.  I'm hoping to get my 750 flying this summer here in Wasilla.  I'm lucky in that two members live close by.  They are Bob Jones and Bill Bear.
