Replacing Jabiru 3300 engine mount grommets (spacers) on CH601XL

The rubber engine mount grommets (spacers) on my Jabiru 3300 engine are in need of replacement. Ii appears that replacing the two sets of spacers for the upper engine mount positions will be fairly easy. However, that does not appear to be true for the lower mount positions easy because the weight of the engine will prevent the engine from rotating (tilting) upward to install the grommets. Can someone please help me with a strategy for installing the lower grommets. Thanks in advance for your…See More

Inspection panel construction

I am in the process of designing and building an inspection panel that will be located on the glare shield of my CH601XL. One consideration is the distance between nut plates on the doubler for the panel. Some people have told me to space tham 1" apart from one another. Others have recommended distances of 1.25" to 1.50". I would greatly appreciate any advice on that issue from those that have fabricated and installed inspection panels? Thanks!GeneSee More

Problem with left mag, Jabiru 3300 engine

I am having problems with the left magneto on my Jabiru 3300 engine. When I conduct the mag checks there is almost no rpm drop on the right mag. However, when I check the left magneto the drop is 200-250 rpms and the engine runs very roughly. My A&P suggested installing new spark plugs. I did this, but it did not help. So, a friend suggested replacing the rotor and distributor cap. If the doesn't solve the problem, he recommended installing a new magneto.]Any thoughts on the best strategy to…See More

Tachometer connection after alternator installation

I just finished installing a Rotec Aerosport alternator kit in my CH601XL. It has a Jabiru 3300 engine. Initially the EFIS got tachometer information from a lead coming out of the the Jabiru alternator. However, a similar lead is not available on the Rotec alternator. So, my EFIS does not have RPM information. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts you may have on how to provide the EFIS with that information?  Unfortunately, the people at Rotec do not respond to customer inquiries.GeneSee More

Installing Rotec Altaernator kit

I am installing a Rotec alternator kit in my CH601XL that has a Jabiru 3300 engine. I have run into a couple of problems and am seeking help on two issues:1. The Jabiru alternator that is now in the plane has two ignition coils that have wires that connect to the two distributors. When these are removed to allow for the installation of the Rotec kit, there is no longer a connection to the distributors. Without current to the distributors, the engine will not start. Moreover, the installation…See More

Horrible experience with Rotec Aerosport

On March 23, 2020 I ordered an alternator upgrade kit from Rotecaerosport for my CH601XL-B. I had a series of problems with this company, including: They promised me a total price of $750 for the kit: $625 for the kit and $125 for shipping. However, my credit card was charged twice for the kit, once to my credit card and another to a PayPal account. So, I contacted my credit card company and disputed the charges. They said the second charge was fraud and cancelled my credit card. Then they sent…See More

Hot cockpit in Zodiac CH601XL

I fly a Zodiac CH601XL. Recently, I flew it from KFFZ (Mesa, AZ) to KBRG (Belen, NM). In spite of the fact that I typically flew at 10,500 or 11,500 MSL the air temperature in the cockpit was about 100 degrees. That was true even when the OAT was about 40 degrees. The plane has two eyeball vents. However, they do almost no good in bringing cool air into the cockpit.Does anyone have recommendations for reducing the air temperature in the cockpit? Thanks!UPDATEIn response to my previous posting…See More
