601 HDS gear issues (tail dragger)

I'm assembling my main landing gear for a 1992 601 HDS TDO. The drawings indicate the slides need to be 154 mm apart. I very carefully marked out all the ribs and sides. With them clecoed in place,  I decided to test fit the gear hub/bearing - no joy. The steel tubes that attach to the bungee are too far apart for this spacing. I measured out the hub out and it seems to match the drawing.If I clamp the gear sides to the hub, then lay it on the rib, they are parallel, but 170mm apart.…See More

Incorrect rib placement for taildragger 601 HDS?

This is for a 1993 601 HDS, taildragger. In the tri gear drawings, the center wing ribs (from inside to out) are at 585, 665, 770, etc. on the main spar.The taildragger replacement drawings put the same ribs at 530, 650, 770 etc (the others are the same, only the first two ribs are different).The issue is that 6-V-4-2 (this piece helps from the boundaries of the cabin) is riveted from the factory right around 530. Is this a mistake? Another completed piece

It's always an exciting day when you just get to rivet! Assembled the elevator for the final time. These are the days that make me want to invest in a pneumatic riveter, I think I will for the fuselage. The stabilizer was finished my junior year in college, will just tack rivet elevator for now.Rudder I'm holding was finished by my granddad at the Zenith factory in 1993.See More

Finally getting back to work

Last year I graduated college, and moved to Oregon to start my aerospace engineering career (as an avionics engineer). Been instructing a lot, especially after finishing my CFI-I. BUT I finally have the whole kit here, and make time for it most days. Nice to have it close by and easy access. I got the wings to about 75% done in high school and college breaks. Finished most of the fail feathers in college. I'm just about to install the trim servo in the elevator, and close it up. Then onto the…See More
