Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
I'm getting ready to hang my 3300 back on my Zodiac airframe. I'll be remounting my Aero Classics oil cooler underneath the oil sump.
I know to fill the oil cooler with oil after hanging. I assume that when you drain oil during an oil change, oil remains in the cooler.
My question is, with as much oil drained as possible and a fresh oil filter installed - how much fresh oil do you add to the crankcase to bring it to the desired level? The folks at Jabiru (Arion) say about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the marked area. If you fill the crankcase too full, they say the oil can foam and the engine run hot.
I'm guessing that 3.5 quarts might be about right, what is your experience or technique?

On both my former Gen 2 and my present Gen 4, 3.5 qts was about right to fill the oil cooler (7 row Aero Classic), oil filter, and crankcase about 1/3 the way up on the marked area. Once the oil cooler has been filled, subsequent changes of oil with a new filter takes about 3 qts.
