Hi Kurt. We remember you too. Wish we could have had more time to talk about everything. It's great that you'll have your kit soon and be able to spend the winter working on it. I'd be surprised if you weren't flying it by spring 2016. We got our plans too and have been studying them and watching the videos. It'll be a great, fun, complex, rewarding experience and I feel like I'm already on it. I have the rudder hung up in the shop providing inspiration already. You'll have to keep us informed about your project as it goes along. It'll be fun.
Hey Kurt, I got you message on my site about the slotless aileron controls. I have some pictures and information in my computer that I will try and dig up for you. I still plan on doing this modification but am still constructing wings. I'll look for it tomorrow and forward you what I have.
Thanks Vance

Look into my build pictures for my custom trailer.
On the engine, a friend in New Zealand is happily flying with Jabiru 3300. 2200 is a little under power he said. IMHO, you won't regret studying info for Honda Viking engine.
On building 701, you should consider all these mods:
1. Nose strut steel bungee, as discussed.
2. Adding head room by curving up the flat roof. Search for the blog I've posted.
3. Look up Joseph Truncale's build pictures for separate elevator control from the torque, so that your 701 can fly straight and not making slight left turn.
4. Build the wing leading edge with "full nose rib", or simply leave the slats off.
5. Change the horizontal stabilizer from the hallmark inverted airfoil to a simple bullet shape.
6. Put fairings on the wing struts.
7. If you are not so much of a bush pilot, you might want to build your 701 the long wing version.
You may discuss more of these with me later. You can just build and fly your 701 as per plan and later on add strut fairing, leave the slats off and save 16 pounds, change the HS shape or add micro VG's to the elevator, Beanie Mod the roof, etc.
Hi Kurt
Wile giving your friend in Thailand information about where he could buy the steel bungee from Viking I noticed your comment about the Viking inch and maybe being complicated to install in your aircraft. I hope you have seen our latest straightforward installation video on the top of this page? It is the second video down from the top it really shows you step-by-step how easy it can be. http://vikingaircraftengines.ning.com
Kurt... Have fun building your 701. I have found it very rewarding. The construction of these kits has evolved so much over the years that I probably wouldn't be able to offer you much advice. Everything is pretty straight forward. I purchased my kit from a guy in Canada who had partly built it, then his wife developed a very debilitating illness that left her paralyzed and he had to put it in storage. I trailered it down from Vancouver Island a couple years ago to continue his work. I am now waiting on the FAA to inspect. There are two 701's in this area and another couple down around Fredericksburg. I stopped flying about 8 years ago. A friend is planning to fly this one for me. Soon afterward I will be selling it. I love building airplanes and hope this will not be my last. This is my 5th - Quickie Q-1, Kolb MK III, Piper Cub L-4, Vans RV7A and now Zenith CH701
Hey Kurt, so your second airplane also? The 701 has been an enjoyable build, I have another 1 yr 11 months until I retire...Hopefully... Most likely will still be on my 701 project. Looking forward to this being my main occupation along with a couple other interests. Flying up to Port Angles in J3 Cub with John Edwards to look over David Orr's fresh flying 701!!! Best and good to have another co-builder to chat with!
Kurt, I got your friends request also from Viking and clicked on it but don't know if it went thru. I don't do Facebook! I just checked my wiring V/View to ECU and also the wiring schematic that came with my Viking View. The white/green wire from the View connects to the white/red wire from the ECU(fuel flow). The wires from the View and ECU were all labeled by Viking as received. I ran the engine for the first time last summer and as I recall I was showing fuel flow on the View. My 110 is a late 2014 delivery and I like to communicate with other 110 owners re: tips, hints and operation impressions. Instead of cluttering up the forums,I prefer to use e-mail. Mine is normneuls@yahoo.com
Thanks for the file on the no-slot-flap, I like its elegance and if I can get the wings off the bench and on the fuse I will be attempting it. Thanks again Kurt.

Let me know if you find it less complex.

Hi Kurt,
I do have a viking engine installed in my 750 Cruzer. Not done yet. Working on panel.
Will next tackle, cowl, windshield, doors, then build and attach wings, install baggage metal and windows in that order.
