All has gone fairly well. Had a cooling problem but seem to have that solved..
Just have to finish flying the test hours then starting a 650

For me building in the living room is primarily to keep me motivated with it always being right there in my face all the time. And , obviously or not I am single and my spoiled rotten cat doesn't seem to mind..
  • ANGELO RONCHI

Thank You for appreciating my work

    Hi Perry

Not familiar with that one , I made my own which is a copy of one we had at work except I made mine mine longer (78 inches) It bent all the pieces except horiz. stab and elevator spars and the .063 cabin channel.

  • Lee DeLano

Yes, not too many Delanos out there. Our last name has always been spelled with a capital "L". Both my mother and father were from SW Michigan where there are some other DeLanos. They came west during WWII and never went back.
I worked for UMA out of Lethbridge for awhile and have flown to Victoria, Penticton, Vernon, 100 Mile House, Watson Lake, and Whitehorse, in a Cessna 182. Don't have the proper equipment in my 701 to venture back into Canada at this time, maybe you can visit us here in the central valley of California sometime. Good luck, enjoy your plane.

    lee,

Good to hear from you. A fellow by the name of Charles Delano crossed into Canada from Maine in he 1800's settling on the Miramichi River in NB. Although few in number most of the Canadian Delano's can trace thier history to this imigrant. I was in Williamsburg, Virginia a few years back and found that there were many more Delanos in that area. The Holiday Inn had 9 pages of Delanos in their computer.

I did not realize the name had such a rich history until my cousin did a genological report back in the 90's. I am assuming you know the name has its origins with the pilgrims and the Mayflower. If not, look up Phillipe de Lannoy and the ship the Fortune.

Would love to visit and see your plane if we ever get down that way. If you're ever up this way give us a call.

UMA is also in Vancouver and being in engineering I've worked with some of their people in the past.

    Regards,

    Perry

Good to hear from you Perry. Purdy pointed me towards Zenith after he visited with you in the fall. He never mentioned you yourself were building one. I'm curious as to why you are building the 701? I guess the biggest reason I'm drawn towards the 750 is the relative simplicity of the kit in comparison to the 701. Just wondering what I may be missing, would appreciate your opinion(s).
When do you guys get here for xmas? I'm heading to my brothers place on boxing day, hopefully see you before I leave.
    Cheers
  • Chad Taylor

No I haven't ordered the kit yet Perry. I've literally spent hours researching the 750 on the internet and joined this group only yesterday to gather even more information. Before for your visit with Purdy I was days away from ordering a Challenger kit. It's taken a while for me to convince myself I'm making the right decision with the 750. I now think I am. Glad you never gave me '20 reasons' to reconsider the 701, I don't think my brain could have handled another change. My mad money resources are limited right now as well so I'll be buying this kit in stages and spreading the cost out over a few years.
Can-Zac periodically holds builder workshops for just the tail section in Kitchener. I was thinking of doing one of these late winter/early spring when things slow down here at work. It would give me an opportunity to get some hands on building experience, to actually see and possibly fly in one and a chance to ask a 'thousand' questions. As a bonus my mother lives a 1/2 hour drive from Kitchener.
Look forward to seeing you, I'll likely have a bunch of questions for you as well.
    Cheers

Another thing holding me back is a 1964 1/2 Mustang in my single car garage. Need space to work and I can't seem to part with the car....

Thanks for the nice comments on my paint scheme.  Its not 100% original, but another auircraft on the webpage a few years ago was so close to something I was working on anyway that I used it with a few adapations.  I see you also have painted a "wave" to try and reduce the hard lines of the fuselage.

"8.50-6 for the fwd wheel (plus the extended nose gear option) and 29-13-6 Airstreaks for the main. Alaskan Bushwheels was very helpful!"

  • Robert McNaught

    Hi Perry

It took me about 12 years to complete it from start. Although I was off and on a few times building a house and raising a family. It first flew in 2012. I obtained my licence with it over a couple of years. But in 2015 it was tied up out side and another aircraft ran into accidentally and almost wrote it off so I rebuilt it over 11 months and started flying it again last September and haven't stopped. Great Airplane!!

  • David Muse

    Perry,

Thanks for the kind words. You can't see all the sags and runs in my photo, but the vinyl graphics came out well, even if I do say so myself! I'm kinda stuck at the moment, since the airport has no hangar space for the plane. So, I paint and wait.

Oh, by the way, the foot tall numbers are for whenever I will go to Alaska. Need the big numbers for international flight.

    Hi Perry,

Yes it is indeed the Subaru EA-81 with PSRU in the 701. I plan to transplant the power package from the 701 to the 750 when done. I will then install a Rotax 912 in that 701 and sell it outright.

I will then keep the 750.

    Regards,

    Norm

  • Adrian Bachmann

Hi Perry, thanks for the comment. Yes I have the engine but I'm having a hard time finding a mount.planning on building my own using zeniths design as a starting point for my own. Are you planning on finishing your 701?

Hi Perry. What questions do you have?

  • Shay King

    Hi Perry,

Do you have a header tank in your 701? If so, do you have any photos you could share?

    Shay.

  • Stefan carlsson

Yes it is. I was going for the 100 hp, but I got my hands on a used engine whit only 600 h. The deal included the propeller and the Dynon flightdeck, and was to good a deal to let go. If it will work as planned only time will tell.
