Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
Hi everyone,
I'm flying a 601XLB w/ a 0200 and this morning outside air time was around 82. My cruise oil temp got up to 221 degrees. Is this excessive or normal? I don't have an oil cooler. Don't know if I have enough room on the firewall to mount one.
Thanks!

dont worry, what grade oil are you using? 240 is redline
do you have external filter assy?
Hi, External filter? Not for sure what you mean? I don't have an oil cooler.
You can install an oil filter replacing the oil screen, usually from the pad on left rear of engine. Some report higher temps when installed. This is where the factory oil cooler adapter mounts (usually in seaplanes). Ensure engine baffles are doing a good job sealing up top, preventing airflow loss
Hi, Yes, I have an oil filter adapter on the back of the engine block and spin on filter. There is a “factory oil cooler”?
