Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
Hi everyone,
just finishing up my annual on my ELSA AMD built 601XLB
when I tested my lights I found my Aeroflash Strobes not operating
spent a couple of hours troubleshooting to no avail. I found Juice at the switch, tried to follow the wiring to
the strobes. Cannot find any issue. Wires are really buried and mostly inaccessible.
i figured I must of pulled a connection loose during the annual. This unit uses two wing mounted power supplies so I would think if it’s a bulb or power supply one would still work.
i had to walk away and look at it again tomorrow .
Any body out there have a similar problem? Or any suggestions?
thanks Dave

To possibly state the obvious - did you check the grounds at both lights? Many times these are grounded at the wing tip rather than running ground wires back to the firewall. Though of this were the case, you'd think one would work.
Did builder install an inline fuse downstream of the switch? Its not a good idea, but it happens.
Thanks Gary
plane is an AMD factory built. I checked the grounds at the wingtip and set up a temporary ground, no help.
since both sides are out, and there are two wing tip mounted HV power supplies unlikely a ground or a bulb.
i checked voltage at the strobe switch and it’s working fine.
so somewhere after the switch there is a break in the flow of voltage.
the switches must be a combo switch/breaker as I don’t see a separate breaker for the strobes.
as I said it’s pretty difficult to follow the wires from the switch as the wires are in the wings. The power supplies are in the wing tip area and the rivets would have to be drilled out to access the supplies.
i may end up replacing the wing mounted strobes with LED Nav/strobe units and use the nav circuit to power them.
the old strobe/nav lights take to much juice anyway, so it may be a good time to upgrade.
