I saw somewhere that you should have at min the 100 HP for floats on a 701
Is it OK to put them on the 80 HP
What are the performance differences for those that have them

Thanks

I cannot speak to the particular combo you are interested in.  But having float time in a Zenith STOL (the 801), I can say generally that HP that falls on low end of the airframe design spec will be suboptimal for float ops, and I would not recommend it.

Hi Kim ,The first Zeniths CH701 all had Rotax 582 65hp Motors and flew just fine long before the Rotax 912 exhisted. Many up graded to the 80 Hp when they first came out , my CH701 has the very first Rotax 912 80HP in North America. And I am happy to said still performs fine today. Wheels or floats, but the 100HP will definitely give you better performance it’s all about the Horses, and weight?

Thats what I thought, I saw conflicting comments elsewhere

Thanks

Agree with Wayne it all depends on WT & HP
I did a lot of float training on 701 straight and wheel floats. Rotax 582,912, Suzuki 1200.
All worked well with #950 Zenair floats
Keep it light not fancy
