I know from the Viking videos that Jan mounts the batteries on crew side of firewall, but was wondering if anybody has located them on the engine side instead, seems to me they would be a lot easier to check and maintain if they were under the cowling. Just wondering about what others think?
Cooler battery = longer life. Gets pretty hot under the cowling.
I have mine in the hell hole for weight and balance.
Makes sense, was also thinking maybe under the passenger seat. More wiring than the firewall though.
photo of how I did mine. Two lithium motorcycle batteries. Fine so far with 50 hours on plane.
I have my batteries on the engine side of the firewall. I have not found heat to be an issue. Most of the waste heat is dissipated by the radiator on the bottom behind the engine.
