Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
Hi guys
In another thread a fellow builder mentioned that the MD-RA would be looking for aluminum manufactured marks on the parts, like angles. With respect that the right metal alloy was used.
does this mean you cant primer parts? or you have to leave it unprimered until after the inspection? I went on the MD-RA web site and read through some of the documents but didn't see anything about it. Maybe I'm not looking in the right area.

I could have been wrong about this. In the US it is not an issue but I seem to remember discussions about it in Canada, hopefully someone will chime in. Dan
Hi Michael,
No one in our group ended up priming so the marks were not mentioned by our inspector. There two ways that I can think of to ensure no problem. Either take some photos where the marks can be seen, or keep receipts of the materials you buy, showing the material grades. Our inspector did ask to see the receipts for our materials and we pulled out a shoe box full which he promptly did not even look at.
Our inspector did not compare the plans to the airframes except in a couple of spot(s) locations. There is too much to look for them in a reasonable time frame during the inspection. Not all inspectors are created equal though. I have heard some inspectors barely glance at the work and others go through it very carefully. We did substitute some odd dimensioned materials to the next highest (bigger) in a couple of places.
Good luck,
Joe
