Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
Hello all..
Anyone have pictures or sketches of baffles for the bug eye openings in the cowl or one used on the oil cooler? My 3.0L Corvair engine in my CH601 runs too cool in the winter months here in Wisconsin. Also the cabin heat is marginally effective. Thoughts, ideas?
Thanks…Cliff

Cliff, a typical method around here is to use HVAC aluminum tape on the oil cooler to simply block air flow thru the fins. Adjust as necessary. I suspect it would help with the oil running too cool, not sure how effective that would be in helping with cabin heat overall. You can see the tape on the lower 2/3 of my oil cooler in this pic
Cliff, I have a 750. Opening up the inlets so it would cool enough during summer resulted in low oil temps during winter. I added a flap controlled by a cable from cockpit. Now I can close to warm up quicker and open as needed. I estimate that in the fully closed position that it is maybe 80 per cent blocked.
hi, where did you opened up the inlets?
Yes, my flap is in front of the oil cooler. Another option that another builder used was to install a slide door behind the oil cooler. Both way work but the slide is more straight forward. He used nylon for the tracks that the door slides. I don’t have anything on the back of mine.
