Hi building a 701, torquing the engine mount bolts to 37 ft lbs deformed the distance tube and gouged the cup washer.

I found it difficult to even hold the wrench smoothly at 37, is that the torque others use?

I know the bolt needs tension to avoid fatigue but the 701 and Rotax are so light and the tubes are so thin.

Shaun a picture would help. Are you talking about the bolts that attach the engine ring mount to the firewall mount through the rubber vibration isolators?

Correct the large AN7 bolts.

I confess I did not tighten mine with a torque wrench. Instead I snugged them until the rubber bushings started to compress, then tightened them with just enough additional force to align the next available cotter key slots.

I relooked the instructions and notice they depict SL nuts- my kit came with castellated nuts and cotter pins- are you accounting for the drag torque of the SL nuts when you tighten?

Newer kits come with castle nuts.
