I am using a GRT engine info system (EIS) and the WW FlyCorvair inductive tach pickup getting a signal from bolts on the flywheel. Initially, I had erratic tach readings below 1500 RPM with the recommended 0.025" gap. I tried moving the pickup closer to get a reliable reading, but 0.005" is too close and the bolt hit the pickup and broke it.

After I replaced the pickup, I added neodymium magnets to the bolt heads and now I have a reliable tach reading at all RPM with a 0.050" gap!

Just an FYI for those planning to use a glass panel tach.
