Hello, I am building the fuselage for my 801. Does anyone have plans, drawings and specs for the no slot flap system? I don’t want to cut a big banana slot in the side skin if I can make help it. Thanks, Bill Phillips CH 601 XLB (sold) RV-8a (flying) CH 801 (building)

Here is a possible source, albeit CH 801 model.   Go to 8:50 for this mod.

Then go to PART 2 at 3:12 for the interior view.

Oops .  did not have my reading specs on.   Should not have used "albeit" .   Hope the link helps.

I believe the owner recently sold that 801.   Gorgeous build and wonderful craftsmanship.

Yes that is where I saw the modification, but I did some drawings or plans to replicate. Thanks, Bill

Back in the old days, we called it the "Frisby-Haas No Slot Flaperon", named for the two guys that invented it.   I think I purchased the "kit" from either Jim Frisby or Ben Haas for my 801.  I'm not sure if Jim is still around.  Last address I could find: n801za(at)hotmail.com  JAMES FRISBY 5704 N FARM LOOP, Palmer city, AK 99645.  Ben Haas died in 2016.

Here is a good summary with pictures of the mod and all it's components:  http://www.liming.org/ch801/FHNSF.html

Two more links may get you to some design specs.

If you manage to get drawings, please post them here so this valuable information can be preserved.   Lots of times builders are solely focused on their own aircraft and forget the future builders who need their knowledge.

RMM, thanks for the help. I am sure there are many builders that have the no slot in there 701s, 750s and 801s, but don’t read the forum. I figure that if I keep asking someone will help and I get the raw data once I build it I will provide a link. Bill

I think the Matronics forum would be a good place to post a similar request.   Those last links that I posted are a starting point.

The 801 that was our first example is now owned and operated out of Texas. But the interior side is fully covered, making it hard to measure the interior pieces.   Jay Herron, who posted below, may still own his 801.   He did not indicate otherwise.   Maybe worth a PM to him.

Good luck.  A worthwhile project to recover the design.

I could disassemble one side on my 801 and ship the parts to Bill.  He can make copies and blueprints and then ship the parts back to me.  PM me your address if interested.
