Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
I was thinking about building floats from a set of Zenair plans I have. I was wondering if they would be better then full lotus on a 701. Also wondering if anyone ever had a 65hp 701 on floats.
New to the site and to Zenith/Zenair.

Contact Brad d'Entremont on this site. He is down your part of the country and is currently flying a CH701 on straight float with Rotax 912 80 hp. I don't think 65 hp is enough engine for the weight & drag penalty imposed on the CH701 by installing floats. Enjoy flying on wheels and skis.... install a Rotax 912 80 hp or 912S 100 hp in the future and your CH701 will "come alive".
Lorne, the full lotis floats have drag on the water , if you want to get off short as in the video of mine , you need the 1150 zenith floats , as far as kit goes remember that it takes two people to buck the solid rivets, and lots of time .I used the time to do other more productive things and got the floats assembled , also its best for take off , landing and on water step turns if you specify the older style mounting system ,the new style looks cool but doesnt preform any near as well, in order for the 701 with 65 hp to get off , you need the 950 floats , light load , and 7.5 degrees of incidence angle , not a good set up ...BOB
